Under the direction and supervision of Registered Nurses and Licensed Practical Nurses administers direct nursing care consistent with the nursing care plan, including treatment, hygiene and monitoring vital signs. Accepts additional tasks as assigned. Performs necessary clerical duties by computing and maintaining records for a nursing unit. Overall management of the nursing station including taking off physician orders, answering telephones, answering patient call lights, ordering supplies and obtaining supplies and other duties as needed. Also accepts additional tasks assigned. Job may include direct supervision of students at the discretion of the area supervisor. Employee must have the same licensure or have completed the same training to satisfy the requirements of the discipline of the student. Direct supervision means the primary caregiver is readily available to the student throughout the shift.
Licensure/Certification/Registration: BLS – Healthcare provider.
Education: Basic reading comprehension required
Experience: Experience on patient care preferred. Must show proficiency in performing nursing assistant duties. Knowledge of medical terminology desirable. Experience as a ward clerk or unit secretary in acute care preferred. Performs in accordance with delineated job responsibilities and satisfactorily completes a yearly evaluation based on these responsibilities. Must possess the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively meet the needs of the patient/internal & external customer.
Special qualifications: Must have the ability to effectively read, write and speak fluent English. Effective communication skills; both orally and written. Computer skills needed. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and to work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care.
